William Bretland b 1853  &  James Bretland b 1854 
William Bretland, married Henrietta Cowap, in 1876. Henrietta the daughter of Edmund Stephenson Cowap. The 1881 census showed them living at 33 Oxton Street,Walton on hill, Lancashire, England with daughter Amy Beatrice Bretland aged 2 yrs.
Henrietta died in childbirth in 1885 and it is believed William married again. Amy appeared on the 1891 Census living with her grandparents Robert & Mary Bretland

James married Mary Elizabeth Cowap the sister of Henrietta Cowap, Williams wife. They had no children. It is believed James spent some time in Brazil as a tea planter before returning to Manchester where he later died.
